OH GOODNESS... MEET HENRY

Henry is an adorable puppy (about 5-6 months old) that adores affection from his human friends. Henry is currently rooming with Ali (another newbie) because the shelter is full. He gets along well with others and is very gentle natured, but also playful. If anyone knows who Henry may belong to, please contact us. In the meantime, he needs a foster home. In just a short time, he will be available for adoption if no one reclaims him.

MEET GREG AND MEG

Just look at these gorgeous creatures! Meet Greg (brown and black coloring) and Meg (chocolate color). We are assuming they are siblings and appear to be very close. These sweeties were found as strays in a neighboring town. They appear very healthy and are pretty well mannered for their young age (maybe 6-8 months?). Greg is a bit more shy than his sister, Meg, but both seem to be gentle.

WOW- ANOTHER ADORABLE NEWBIE: BERNIE

This is Bernie- an adorable Terrier mix. He's about a year old and sweet as can be! He was picked up at a local business on a busy street. If you know who his owner is, please let us know. He has been at the shelter over a week now, so he will be ready for adoption in a few days!

ANOTHER NEW ARRIVAL: ALI

This is Ali, an adorable and playful German Shepherd mix! She was found at an apartment complex and is wearing a collar. If you know who she belongs to, please call Joan at 870-739-1145. If she is not reclaimed by her owner in the next week, she will be available for adoption. If you can foster her in the meantime, let us know!

MEET SWEET ELI

Eli is an adorable young boy (about 3 months old) who desperately needs a foster home (shelters are not good for pups ya know). Look at this sweet face- have you seen anything like this??? If you can help this sweet baby, call Joan at 870-739-1145!

DONATED ITEMS NEEDED

We are working on a Silent Auction Fundraiser to be held at the Esperanza Bonanza Festival in early May (an annual festival in Marion, Arkansas). We would LOVE to have donated items that could be used to raise money for P.A.W.S. (our non-profit organization that raises money for the Marion Animal Shelter). Even small items may be combined to make larger baskets for the auction (e.g., "Doggy Pampering Basket", "Spa Basket", "Entertainment Basket", "Summer/Beach Basket", "BBQ Basket" etc.)- anything really. HAPPY TAILS FOR LOLA AND REESE

Hooray!!! Lola and Reese are on their way to their forever homes Up North! We will update the Blog as we receive information about their new lives. Thanks to both Rescue Groups for pulling through for these two!

WOW- THIS IS A FIRST: MEMPHIS FLIES TO FLORIDA

This is absolutely AMAZING! Thanks to a several doggy angels, Memphis (aka Memphis Blue for his coloring) has gone airborne! Anne from Redland Rescue, Inc. based in Homestead Florida, first saw Memphis on Petfinder on March 19th. As some of you know, Memphis was actually saved from the Memphis Animal Shelter (hence his name) in the end of January.

So... after spending 2 months in our shelter, Anne brought Memphis to the attention of the Director of Redland Rescue, Pamela. They agreed to help save him, so they began to look at all their options regarding transporting this sweet boy to Florida.

In comes more doggy angels. Debbie and Jon from Pilots n Paws, a volunteer air transport group out of Knoxville, TN, agreed to fly (yes fly) Memphis to Florida in a private small airplane for free (yes we said free). In fact, Jon personally offered to fly Memphis to Anne. Therefore, on Friday, March 28th, Memphis became famous (at least in the local paper). He flew 3 hours to Florida and did fantastic!

Memphis will be treated for heartworms and will recover in a temporary foster home with Joan (another member of Redland Rescue) in Fort Lauderdale. Once complete, he will finally go to his forever home with a playmate dobergirl waiting for him.

This is what Anne had to say shortly after his arrival: "What a great disposition, needs some exercise to get more muscle back, but is typical young dobie: very playful and polite, soft mouth for treats, sat too. He’s having a great time with my 1 yr dobergirl, right off the bat!!"

We received another update shortly thereafter: "He is doing very well...he just loves romping with Lena(the other gorgeous Dobie pictured) as you can see in the one pic, they are nonstop when they get going, that was from this morning after breakfast. He is obedient and polite, guarding the house/barks to strange sounds. He will be a good fit for the home we planned for placement. "

Finally, Anne writes: "Memphis is about 20 pounds underweight now, but is a very relaxed, friendly and obedient doberboy who has cuddled and made friends with all those he met along the way. He would not have survived continued confinement and exposure to other animal diseases inherent in shelter care."

We cannot Anne, Pamela, Debbie, Jon, and Joan enough for their part in saving this gorgeous creature!

SHELTER DOGS NEED YOUR HELP

We really hate to even ask (and wish we wouldn' t have to)...but so many of our dogs are desperate for some financial assistance. We have more dogs that are heartworm positive than ever before as well as several that have other issues (broken bones, etc.) that have depleted all the funds that we had. The sad truth is that it would be easier for The City to just euthanize these dogs. We (volunteers, sponsors, etc.) have worked tirelessly to save each and every dog, regardless of what "issues" they may have. We do not want to resemble the typical City Shelter in any way. However, without funds (and foster homes) to treat these pups, we are facing a critical time (a crossroads if you will). We just cannot continue to save all of the shelter dogs without your help. You may say..."well you can't save them all, just pick the ones that don't have the issues". We cannot fathom having to be forced to do that. So here were are...begging for your help. Honestly, ever little bit helps. If you give a little, your neighbor, your coworker...before you know it you have raised enough money to save a life! How about asking your workplace to match donations- we had a wonderful sponsor that did just that and it worked! In case you did not know, a typical spay/neuter is around $75-$100 (including rabies vaccination). Typically, heartworm treatment runs anywhere from $200-$300 per dog (depending on its size). Obviously, broken bones cost significantly more. But think about it...if you or your child happened to break a leg, would you really even think twice about fixing it??? You might recall how annoying those little pesky mosquitoes are in the summer, but do you realize that they can be deadly to our canine friends (that's where heartworms come from afterall! Please put your dogs on heartworm preventative!). Please dig deep (or gather change!). All donations are tax deductible! Checks should be written to PAWS by the way- that's our non-profit or 501-c3 organization. We also accept donations via Paypal. If you feel more comfortable paying our veterinarian directly, we can certainly make arrangements to do that as well. Folks all we care about is saving these guys/gals...many of us are personally "in the hole" as they say trying to help them. For you Oprah fans...remember "GIVE BIG"- it will come back to you!!! FOSTERS WE NEED YOU TO STEP UP TOO!

SWEET GIRL NEEDS ANGELS: MEET LOLLIPOP

This is the sweetest, most cuddly pup you will ever meet! Meet Lollipop (Lolli for short)! She was affectionately named Lollipop by her doggy angels at the vet's office because despite being in pain, Lolli kept licking their faces! The vet thinks that she was probably hit by a car. She broke both bones in her left rear leg and is now recovering from surgery and wears a splint. Lolli is about 6 months old and quite the chunk at nearly 50 pounds!
