BRADY & BRANDY NEED TEMPORARY HOUSING

****THANK YOU JULIE AND GLENN FOR TAKING IN THESE SWEET PUPS****

Brady and Brandy have a Rescue that will take them if someone can foster them for a couple of weeks. They will need to be spayed/neutered which means we need to be able to coordinate that. Please call if you can help them! That would also open up a spot at the shelter!

HURRICANE GUSTAV EVACUEES NEED IMMEDIATE FOSTER HOMES FOR THEIR PETS

WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY! Evacuees from New Orleans area are heading this way to local Churches and other temporary housing. Many will be bringing their pets. We are DESPERATE for some volunteers to foster either their pets or ours....the truth of the matter is, if they cannot find housing, they will have to go to the shelter and the SHELTER IS FULL! Not good news for our residents. PLEASE...this is serious. If you can foster temporarily, call us immediately. Joan can be reached at 870-739-1145 or 870-739-5412. Allison can be reached at 901-240-9848 and Lisa can be reached at 901-826-0292.

IMMEDIATE FOSTER HOMES NEEDED FOR EVEN MORE

These precious souls are in need of immediate fosters (as are many others at the shelter). The 3 Stooges (Larry, Moe, and Curly), Patches, Smokey, and Chief are all being boarded (at a cost we cannot keep up with...) at a vet's office. Razor needs to get out of the shelter ASAP. He has a Rescue that will take him and needs to get out of the shelter environment. They don't deserve to be living in cages just waiting for someone to let them out (and only briefly due to the amount of animals they must care for). PLEASE...we cannot continue to save as many lives as we do without your support.

CRICKET AND CAROLINE NEED FOSTER ASAP

****THANK YOU JULIE & GLENN AND CISSY FOR HELPING THEM (NO LONGER NEED FOSTER HOMES)****

Cricket and Caroline need a foster home immediately (for less than 2 weeks). Caroline will be leaving for her forever home up North on September 11th and Cricket will go to a foster home and begin heartworm treatment. We will provide food and anything else they might need. Time is of the essence- if we cannot find a foster, Caroline will not be able to go. Please hurry and call Joan at 870-739-1145 or 870-739-5412 (after 1 pm at this number). You may call Allison at 901-240-9848 if you have trouble reaching Joan. Note- the pictures of Caroline are from a month ago, so be aware that she is probably twice that size (but still a baby at 3 months old).

UPDATE ON JAKE (aka BILLY)

This is Jake (aka Billy). He was one of the "Aussie Pups" (well...he's not really an Aussie, but his siblings looked like they were Aussie mixes- Blaine, Betty, Becca, etc.). Anyway, Kira and Brian (Arlington, TN) adopted this sweet boy and sent pictures the other day. Congratulations to both of you on your recent wedding/marriage and on your new addition! This is what they had to say about Jake:

"They (Jake and his canine buddy, Callie) absolutely love playing with each other. Jake is a great dog and we couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family. Some milestones: Jake weighs about 18lbs. now. He has gotten all of his shots and will be neutered within the next couple of weeks. He loves going to the farm with Brian. He loves playing with all other dogs and people. Training him has been a breeze. He rings the bells that we have hanging on our back door to let us know he needs/wants to go outside. He slaps the bells so hard that they swing back and forth hitting the wall and door. He keeps slapping them until we get up to let him out. He is very persistent! He can now go up and down the stairs without hesitation or being scared. (This was a big deal...he would go up with Callie and then he was scared to come back down.) He loves stealing socks, scarfs, shoes, etc. out of our closets and taking them to his bed where he lays with them. Jake is so smart and just a really loving dog. We love him very much!"

Thank you both for providing such a wonderful home for him. He is very lucky to have you!

CREW GOING TO RESCUE TODAY!

WOW...so exciting! We have a great crew leaving today to their forever homes up North. We sure wish we could find some local homes as well, but we are unbelievably grateful that our "Rescue Diva", Janet, has come through yet again! The lucky ones include: Tori, Tanner, Toby, Captain, Theo, Buddy (Cocker Spaniel), Cindy, and Mandy. We will have a large group leaving September 11th, so please call if you can foster for just a few weeks! If they can't get out of the shelter, they cannot go... (The crates may look like "doggy jail" now, but on Saturday they will open the doors to a whole new life!)

SO MANY NEW ARRIVALS- SEE PICTURES BELOW

Since we have so many new arrivals in the past 2 weeks, we are just going to post their pictures on the Blog this time (without descriptions). If you need additional information, please read about each dog under the profile on Petfinder (You will find the Marion Animal Shelter website under the section "Links of Interest" on the right of this Blog). Thank you for your understanding. We are adding dogs daily.... Be sure to check older posts since they all won't fit on a page (if you are new to "Blogs", the most current posts are at the top- you have to scroll down for older posts). We also have numerous cats and kittens (unfortunately we are unable to take pictures at this time, but can get you in touch with our "Cat Lady", Glynis)
