UPDATE ON LING LING AND HARVEY

Harvey & Ling Ling, two dogs on the "Urgent" list at the shelter, were lucky enough to find a terrific foster home together! Harvey, being hearing impaired needed a special place to go. Lily, his new foster, is experienced with teaching dogs sign language - and Harvey is a great student. He is also learning a lot from Ling Ling, who a great canine mentor.

Here is the first update from their foster mom:
I just wanted you to know that they have settled in nicely. They have already gotten attached. Both of them will whine and howl if they are seperated. Ling Ling will jump around to get Harveys attention if there is a bird or something interesting to look at out the window. She seems to understand that there is something different about him and helps alert him to anything he may be missing, like a full food bowl :)

I have already taught Ling Ling to sit and lay down, she is so smart she even caught on to the sign language that I have used to teach Harvey. He is also a pro at sit and lay down. We are leaning towards adopting them if they keep up their good behavior because they seem really well matched.

I am attaching some pictures of them enjoying their new couch and such. Thank you for your efforts to save these dogs from euthanasia they are great!

Thank you Lily for saving these two wonderful dogs! This is a perfect example of how critical foster homes are to our organization! Fostering can be a very rewarding experience that costs you nothing but time and love. Please consider helping one of our dogs still in need by opening your home - contact Lisa to foster a dog: 901-826-0292.

MEET SMALL BUT MIGHTY NICK!

Meet Nick! This sweet boy is a doll! He is under 2 years old (probably closer to a year old) and loves to be in your lap. He enjoys chasing after a ball and is even learning to bring it back! Nick needs a foster home ASAP! He can only stay in his current foster home until Monday when he gets neutered. Nick is heartworm negative (YEAH!!) so all he needs is a loving, indoor home! Call Joan at 870-739-1145 or Allison at 901-240-9848 if you can help him!

A FEW NEW PICS OF GUS!

Gus will have more pictures soon, but here are a few new pics of this gorgeous boy! Gus is doing fantastic! He has finished his heartworm treatment and just needs to take it easy for a few more weeks. Gus LOVES to play with toys and typically throws them in the air. He's all about being with people and food (he'll let you know when he hears the food being scooped)! Gus is so good...he likes to snooze on his blanket. He deserves a loving, indoor home! FYI-If you can't handle hair/shedding then he (any Lab really) is not the one for you.

IF YOU HAVE DONATED/SPONSORED A DOG RECENTLY

Please bear with us if you have sponsored a dog or donated recently as we are a bit behind in sending proper thank you notes (they will be sent out shortly). Thank you so much for your continued support- without people like you, we wouldn't be able to continue to save lives!

A FEW MORE EMERGENCY FOSTERS NEEDED!

We still have a few dogs that need foster homes. These pictures were taken quickly (they are much more adorable in person!) Pictured below are Astro the Weimaraner (he is heartworm positive); and Nick (Jack Russell; owner surrender); Caroline (poor puppy with the skin issue; is being treated and could use a loving home); and Hailey (brindle puppy). Please find it in your heart to help these dogs in need.

WHO SAYS OLD FOLKS CAN'T FIND LOVING HOMES?

This is Chrissy. Poor Chrissy found herself in the animal shelter through no fault of her own (it never is...). Chrissy is 17 years old- yes...17! One of our volunteer's sisters, Kelly (in the blue sweater), came down last weekend to visit and met Chrissy. It was love at first sight! Kelly went back home to St. Louis and waited to hear whether Chrissy would be available for adoption. She received word on Thursday and on Friday, she met half-way to pick up this precious gal! Kelly...you are angel for giving this sweet girl the best possible life. Chrissy is adjusting very well to her new home. She is receiving all the love and affection she could possible get as well as some medicine to help with arthritis. Keep us updated on how she is doing! Please consider helping a dog in need (especially a senior!)

EMERGENCY FOSTERS NEEDED!

We are searching frantically for emergency foster homes for many of our sweet pups. All of them have been at the shelter longer than "their alloted time" and we want to make sure they are safe (a few have to leave their temporary foster homes). We have a Rescue Group that is working diligently to find homes for them, but they just need somewhere to stay in the meantime. If you have a fenced in yard and could offer your assistance, please call Allison at 901-240-9848 or Lisa at 901-826-0292! Some of the dogs in need are pictured here (some are not yet posted on Petfinder)!

SAD NEWS ABOUT BETSY

****GREAT NEWS FOR CEE CEE... She is now in a foster home thanks to doggy angel, Crystal****

We are very sad to report that Betsy has passed away. She came into the shelter the other day . She had some stomach issues when she first came in. We thought it was stress, but she was taken to the vet to make sure. She received IV fluids and antibiotics (blood work indicted she had an increased white blood cell count), but sadly, she did not make it. The vet thinks she may have had some type of long standing infection or perhaps even cancer. Cee Cee, her doggy companion, is now alone at the shelter. If anyone could please foster Cee Cee let us know. PAWS could use some sponsor funding to help pay for the medical care that Betsy received. Please remember that none of these dogs can be helped without donations :)

MEET DAREDEVIL BENSON!

This is Benson! This boy thinks he is a daredevil. He was found running down a street following a car (we wonder whether they dumped him...). Benson nearly followed them on to the Interstate! Luckily, one of our volunteers was able catch him. Benson is absolutely adorable. He is under a year old and is just a love. Please consider fostering him while we search for a home. He is wet in these pictures, but he will be even more gorgeous with a good bath!
