ANOTHER UPDATE FROM AFAR: SCOTTY (AKA PATRICK)

Here is some more great news about one of our pups! This is Patrick (known as Scotty previously). For those of you who may not remember, Patrick is deaf.

"Just thought I would send you some pix of Patrick. He is doing so well. He has turned out to be the best little dog. He has learned four sign language commands, "Sit", "come", "pay attention" and "good boy". He loves to sit on your lap and give lots of kisses. He can dance standing up on his hind legs. He came perfectly house-trained and only barks to go outside or to play (and he loves to play!). Of course, he's still crazy to ride around in cars or trucks. Jim has even taken him into Home Depot with him! He also doesn't seem to mind being dressed up! Happy Holidays to all! Cathy and Jim, Patrick, Michael, Kelly and Finn"

Thanks for the update and for providing Patrick such a great home!

UPDATE FROM UP NORTH: LADY BUG & JANE!

This is an update from Lady Bug's new owner and Jane's new owner. We cannot be happier that these two found such wonderful homes! Thanks Janet once again for making it all happen!

"Greetings Janet,

Just wanted to thank you again for my early X-Mas present with the arrival of Lady Bug (Sadie) . She is doing quite well, and truly is a sweet girl. She loves to play with "Hughie" (pictured beside Lady Bug) and has a fondness for one of my cats as well. I have attached some holiday pics, oh they are so good for putting up with me! Cheers, Christine
"

"Seasons Greetings. JANIE is doing very well. She is starting to come out of her shell and seems to be catching on to us. She loves her yard and although it is small she makes the most of it. I snowblew a circle for her in the yard and you would think she was part greyhound the way she raced around it. Everyone loves her including my mother who is not an animal person. She even said she was glad we broought her to Christmas Eve. She went to Christmas with us about 45 miles away and rode great. Her cousin the Boxer was there and they played and wrestled until they were exhausted and covered in drool. Janie slept all the way home. We will be looking for a school for her soon and hopefully her listening skills can be honed in. She certainly has selective hearing. Enclosed are a couple pictures. Steve and Pam

UPDATE ON BOSCO!

This is the latest from Bosco's foster mom, Teresa:

"Bosco: OMG --- he is the best dog that I have ever seen!!!!! He hasn't had any potty accidents, he kennels easily, and loves the other dogs. He is playful, but not hyper. He loves to run around in the backyard and chase the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. He jumps on you, but very gently. He is a big love bug. He adores being petted and will shower you with kisses. He loves to lay on the couch and have his belly rubbed; he will go sound to sleep. He definitely has lab in him. He will go to my bedroom and get my socks of the bin that they are in. He does not chew on them, he just carries them to the living room. The other morning I walked into the living room and most of my socks were laying in the floor, I couldn't do anything but laugh! Everyone that has met him adores him! His pictures don't do him justice; he is gorgeous!"

Aren't you looking for a wonderful companion for the New Year? This sweetie still needs a new home!

AN UPDATE ON POLLY!

This is an update from Polly's new owner!
"Wanted to let you all know that Polly is my favorite dog EVER. My parents, my neighbors, my horses - we all adore her. She has NO bad habits, and has come completely out of her shell. She greets all people (except some large men) with a wagging tail that moves her wholebody, and when she sees someone she REALLY likes (like me), she walks around on her hind legs like a circus dog for extra attention. She pounces on her toys like a cat, and when she meets other dogs in the woods, she springs high in the air like a kangaroo, which makes all the humans laugh. We are out in the fields and woods several times a day, andshe is seldom more than 50 yards from me. When I whistle, she comes running. She is a fabulous animal. It's hard for us to believe that she was in danger of being euthanized. Thank you for rescuing her, and taking care of her until I could come along to take over. Happy Holidays to your family, Lisa, and to Cissy's (Polly's foster home)"

UPDATED PICTURES OF TRIXIE (WITH HOWARD)!

Trixie is doing great in her foster home. She is such a sweetheart. She definitely seems to have been in a home before. Trixie just wants to be loved and is perfectly content chewing on a bone and hanging out on the couch. She just needs a forever home. She is pictured with Howard as well (also available for adoption).

PAWS BOOTH SLOW, BUT VOLUNTEERS STILL HAD FUN!

We may have only sold a few items, but we had alot of fun nevertheless. Some of our volunteers and their families took advantage of the horse-drawn carriage rides, while others decided to join in with the band! A PAWS event could not be complete with out a stray wandering up (yes...the huge Mastiff just walked up! Thankfully, we were able to locate his owner- WHEW!).

Thanks to everyone who helped with this event- Lisa & Leanne (and family), Sherry, Joan, and Allison. Thanks again to Kelly, who made over 30 blankets by herself! We will let everyone know once we get our store up and going!

MEET PRECIOUS MICKEY!

Mickey is the best little puppy in the world according to his foster mom. He is such a doll. He adores playing like most puppies, but doesn't whine or bark when he has to go back in is crate. Mickey is about 3 months old and weighs 15 pounds. He would love to find his forever home this holiday- could it be yours? Call Allison at 901-240-9848 if you have any questions about this adorable boy (he is MUCH cuter in person, but you can click on each picture for an enlarged view).

IVY - PLEASE HELP

Ivy is incredibly lucky to be alive right now. Believe it or not, Ivy was run over by a car. She crawled up on a woman's doorstep and just wagged her tail. She had apparently suffered all night long before she was able to make it to the vet. Somehow in the night, Ivy crawled under another car. She would not come out from under the car so they had to jack the car up to get her out. In the process, it spilled oil all over her. This sweetie has been through so much.
It turns out that Ivy broke BOTH rear legs (4 bones total). Ivy was transferred to another animal hospital where she underwent surgery to repair both legs. Everyone that meets her is absolutely amazed with how sweet she is, despite being in so much pain.

Ivy has now been through THREE surgeries to repair her legs at the cost of $2300.00. We need your help to pay her bill.
Click the link below to donate towards her Ivy's bill

Ivy is just one of many special medical need pups that we have put back together. Our vet bills currently exceed $10,000.00 and as a city shelter, we just do not have the funds to keep on going like this.

Although we are a municipal shelter, we try to save every dog that comes through our doors no matter what their injuries or illnesses may be. If we do not receive some major financial assistance soon, we are not going to be able to continue to save as many as we do.

Ivy is currently living in a small cage at the vet's office because we have no foster homes available for her. In addition to your financial support, Ivy also needs a loving, indoor foster home. If you can provide one, please contact Joan at 870-739-5412, 870-739-1185, or Allison, 901-240-9848.

It feels like are always begging - and we know that economic times are rough, but we believe in giving every dog a chance at life...please support us in our mission.

Thank you so much for caring about our dogs.
