THE ODD COUPLE: GUS AND GABBY

Meet Gus and Gabby - a truly odd couple!

These two were found traveling together by our animal control officer...It is obvious that they are a bonded pair. As the shelter is overflowing once again, these two are staying in one of our volunteer's heated garage...It is not perfect, but they both seem happy. However, we would love to find them a more comfortable, longer term foster. It is apparent that these two have been a part of someone's family and deserve to be included in a pack again.

Gus is one of the biggest, most loveable goofballs that you will ever meet. We think he is a Lab/Newfy mix who obviously has not missed any meals. He greets everyone he meets with wags and kisses. He takes very good care of his girlfriend, Gabby, who is one tenth his size and definitely wears "the pants" in their relationship. We are not sure what breed Gabby is - she looks like a Papillion/Corgi mix. He plays so gently with her - it is the sweetest thing to see! He even gives her the better part of the bed!

Sadly, Gus has tested positive for heartworm. Because of his weight, his treatment will be quite expensive for us.
We would greatly appreciate donations towards his treatment.

We know it is a long shot - but we would love to see these two stay together. It would be heartbreaking to split them up. If you have room in your heart and home for this very odd couple - please contact Allison: 901-240-9848.

TONS OF NEW ARRIVALS- CHECK OUT PETFINDER

We have numerous new arrivals that need homes for the holidays. Thanks to Leanne, we were finally able to post pictures of them on the Petfinder site! http://www.marion.petfinder.com Please consider at least providing a temporary safe haven for a pup in need (the Marion Shelter has no more room anywhere and dogs are coming in daily). We especially need Bully-breed friendly people to help. Thanks for caring!

GREAT NEWS- NEW VENUE TO SELL ITEMS!

We are so excited that Moka's Grill in West Memphis, Arkansas, is allowing us to set up our booth on their parking lot this Friday and Saturday night. This weekend is their last weekend for Horse Drawn Carriage Rides through local neighborhoods, so they expect a huge crowd! Wish us luck!

MARION PARADE CANCELLED

The Marion Parade has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Consequently, PAWS will not be able to sell our handmade and homemade items. We are working on another venue soon. If anyone is interested in purchasing ornament, dog treats, and/or doggy blankets, let us know. We are working on setting up a store online as well.

VERY VERY SAD NEWS ABOUT MELODY AND ASHLEY JORDAN

We are incredibly sad to report the loss of 2 extremely sweet girls in the last week, Melody and Ashley Jordan. As you can imagine, the foster families and volunteers are devastated. There is no doubt that both of them were adored by their foster families.

Melody crossed over to the "Rainbow Bridge" last week due to complications from ingesting clothing (unknown to her foster family). Melody underwent emergency surgery, but sadly the damage was too great. We cannot thank Kristen enough for taking her in and showing her how to give and receive love. A special thanks to Dr. Gullett as well for trying so hard to help this precious girl.

As some of you may know, Ashley Jordan fought very hard, but was ultimately suffering from kidney failure. Ashley was hospitalized on Saturday until Monday. Despite receiving significant IV fluids and other medications, her kidneys could not bounce back. Her foster family loved her dearly and were fortunate to have her in their lives (even if it were just a short while). We also wanted to thank Dr. Gaines and Dr. Taylor for all the care they gave her during her last days.

If you would like to make a donation in either of their names, we will apply any amount to their outstanding medical bills. We want to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.

LONNIE IS BACK!

Lonnie is a gorgeous, male Pitbull that went missing from the Marion Animal Shelter on Wednesday, 10/15/08. After months of searching, posting flyers and newspaper ads - we finally recovered Lonnie. Thanks to Carolyn, who followed up on the lead that brought Lonnie back to safety.

Sadly, Lonnie is severely underweight (the above pictures were taken before he went missing). It is obvious that he has not eaten on a regular basis while he was gone. Additionally, our shelter is full (as usual).

This boy has been through so much and survived - won't somebody PLEASE step up offer him an indoor foster home.

If you can help Lonnie - please contact Allison at 901-240-9848, or Joan at 870-739-1145. Thank you to everyone who called in and emailed in an effort to find this boy.

UPDATE ON THE CREW THAT JUST LEFT!

We received news about our precious pups that made it to the New England area today:

"Picked up all the sweeties today and they were just great! Angel is here with Arlo and us, and she is an absolute love! She's snoozing with my daughter at the moment. Bessie and Bailey were very shy but their family was ecstatic with them. Bonnie's new mom was overjoyed, Tabitha's parents loved her, and all the foster families were excited especially the little boy who was taking Jeremy. Chico or Jeremy may end up in training as a service dog. Chico snuggled with my daughter Jenny the whole ride home from transport. Winkie is just beautiful - we had so much fun and they all are going to lead happy lives, thanks to all of you who ared for them along the way - we'll take good care of them!"

Sue

THANKS AGAIN FOR SAVING ALL OF OUR SWEETIES!

ANOTHER BIG THANKS TO SUPER FOSTERS, TONY AND CAROLYN!

We wanted to thank Tony and Carolyn for helping to save so many of our dogs/puppies as well. You may remember they took in Teddy and Jules initially (they were adopted by a wonderful man in Wisconsin). Most recently, they fostered Jeremy, JJ, Raz, Chico... They are now fostering Aaron, Allie, Buster and Belle. Foster homes are critical so we appreciate them so much!

GREAT NEWS & A BIG THANK YOU TO UNCLE JOE AND AUNT BETTY!

We are so happy to report that Chief and Jill have been adopted by wonderful families up North. They would not have had this opportunity if it were not for our "Super Fosters", Uncle Joe and Aunt Betty (well they don't mind being called Aunt and Uncle...after all they are related to 2 of our volunteers, Lisa, Leanne, and Cissy). This wonderful couple has taken in many of the dogs that no one could or would take. We are so grateful to them for all of their help.

PAWS HAS A BOOTH FOLLOWING THE MARION CHRISTMAS PARADE TUES, DECEMBER 16th!

Every year the town of Marion, Arkansas, has a Christmas Parade that ends at "The Square" (area outside of City Hall, etc). Local businesses decorate their own Christmas tree that is displayed for all to see (residents vote for their favorite). This year, we are fortunate to be involved in this fun event.

PAWS will have a booth to showcase several handmade items that will be available for purchase. Items include dog/cat ornaments, all natural dog biscuits, and plush fleece dog/cat blankets. Whatever does not sell at the booth, we hope to make available online. 100% of the profits will be used to help our pups in need (e.g., pay toward outstanding medical bills, etc.).

The dog/cat blankets will range in size from XS to XL (Munchkin's picture above shows an XS- incidentally, she was originally from the Marion Animal Shelter and was adopted by her foster parents last summer). There is a wide variety of prints that are absolutely adorable. Prices range from $12 to $30. A few "people" blankets will also be available. Click on each picture for an enlarged view!

If we have not gotten back to you, please forgive us as we are very busy trying to finish making these items for the sale. Call Allison at 901-240-9848 or Lisa at 901-826-0292 if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.

PRECIOUS HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY HER FOSTER MOM!

Our sweet Precious was adopted by her foster mom and her daughter! They just couldn't let this adorable girl go and we are so pleased that she has gone to such a great home. Thanks Terri and Victoria!
