UPDATED PICTURES OF HOWARD!

Howard is doing fantastic! Howard is so funny...he runs around back and forth outside and in circles just as happy as he can be (you must realize he is feeling so much better and just wants to romp and play- don't worry, there's nothing wrong with him!). His skin condition has been treated and his hair is growing back very nicely. All he needs is his forever home. This is such a great young boy. HUGE GROUP LEFT FOR THE NEW ENGLAND AREA YESTERDAY!

We are very excited that 15 dogs were saved yesterday! They left for the New England area and are on their way to their foster homes and forever homes. The list of lucky ones include: Chico, Angel, Bessie, Bailey, Bonnie, Clyde, Tabitha, Bobby, Jeremy, JJ, Dixon, Raz, Jessica, Winkie, and Twinkle. We cannot thank Janet and her volunteers enough for everything they are doing for us. Please call us immediately if you can foster a pup in need.

FOSTERS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY

We know we keep asking, but please... we have over 50 dogs at the shelter and have been told to find foster homes for a good number of them. We have numerous Pitbulls in need as well as several dogs that are in immediate danger because they have been at the shelter too long and/or are living outside. These include Tuxedo, Johnny, Taz, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Samson, Trixie, and Bosco (to name a few).

We could also use some foster homes for smaller dogs (e.g., Spike, Callie, etc.) and puppies (some are not even posted yet).

We still have some of our precious pups living in cages at the vet's office as well (not a great life). Lady, Tramp, Billy, Gibson, Ivy, and Reed are just some of them.

Finally, Mork and Mindy need an indoor foster home as well (their current foster home cannot bring them inside and it is much to cold to be living outside).

The situation is really grim at this point because people keep abandoning their dogs (we have received 8 or so dogs in the last few days- some strays, some clearly abandoned, etc.).

ANOTHER NEWBIE...CALLIE

This is Callie! Apparently she looks WAY better than she did when she first came to the shelter. Callie was covered in mats. She looks older than she really is (we are guessing around 2-3???). Callie appears to be a Cocker Spaniel and was very friendly during pictures. Won't you consider providing her a safe, indoor home?

MEET NEWBIE SPIKE

Poor Spike...he was surrendered by his owners. They had to move into an apartment and were unable to keep this sweet boy. He is about 5 years old and really doesn't want to be in a shelter. Can you help him??? How about at least fostering him? Spike is used to a home environment and needs a doggy angel.

UPDATED PICTURES OF KORA AND DORA!

Just look how great Kora and Dora look now! Both are very friendly and playful according to their foster mom, Terri. Dora is a lapdog wanna-be who will lick you to death! Kora is playful and loves for someone to pet her. These sweeties are crate trained and are learning commands daily (they know "get in cage", "hurry up", etc.). Sadly, both are heartworm positive and could really use some funding for heartworm treatment. If you are interested in meeting these beautiful girls, please give us a call or email us!

DONATIONS ARE WAY DOWN....

We just have to beg again...we are desperate for donations to help pay for our enormous medical costs. We know we keep begging, but we don't know what else to do. Donations made payable to PAWS are completely tax deductible. We know times are really tough right now, but think about your own pets. Can you imagine anything happening to them? We are getting "owner surrenders" almost daily. Some people have lost their homes and have had to move into apartments that will not allow dogs. Every little bit helps us rescue these pups. Examples of typical medical costs (note- these are discounted or "rescue" rates, thankfully) are listed below:

Heartworm Preventative for a Year: $35-50
Spay/Neuter: $50-$100
Vaccinations: $50-$75
Heartworm Treatment: $150-$300 (for the dogs who unfortunately were not given heartworm preventative monthly- one of our largest expenses)
Orthopedic/ Other Surgeries: $250-$600 (we have had numerous dogs with broken legs, broken jaws, and other orthopedic needs that have already been completed or still need to be completed as well as stomach surgery, etc.)

We have been fortunate to save every adoptable dog in the Marion Animal Shelter thus far (over 500 in the last 2 years alone- quite a feat for a small group in a rural area). However, we can no longer continue if we do not receive more funding. At this point, we are just trying to make monthly payments. Please think about it during the holiday season. This is the cutest little girl in the world! Precious has the best personality too- she loves to romp and play as well as to cuddle. Her foster mom (thanks again Terri) has nothing but nice things to say about her. Precious is about 6 months old and was surrendered by her owners because they had to move to an apartment and were not allowed to keep her.
